Photography Studio Backdrops
Photography. Studio. Equipments. Etc etc!?
Hi! I own a Nikon D80. I just bought it like a month ago. I didn’t buy anything for it yet… such as filters, extra batteries, etc.etc. All I have for it right now is a Tripod =[ I’m too busy with work, I don’t have time to go out and buy things.. Anyways. I’m wanting to make a photography studio in my house. I could use my guest room to set everything up. I was wondering… is the garage possible too?
How much should I charge my customers? What kind of paper do I use for the print? What kind of printer? Is there a software that makes printing out pictures with specific sizes over and over again?
How do I get started? What equipments do I need? How much would they cost? Should I buy any special lenses ( all I have right now is the single lens for the d80. 18-55. ) Where can I buy backdrops*Backgrounds* ? Give me an estimate on how much I will be spending please. Thanks!
Slow down — you’re getting ahead of yourself. Learn to use your camera first. Do you know what all the menu items are? Do you know what all the buttons and switches are about? Could you operate your camera blindfolded?
The only think I’d get right now is one of those “Magic Lantern Guides” that replace the incomprehensible manual that came with your camera. And then I’d practice a lot, and look at a lot of images on-line and elsewhere to see what I like and don’t like — the beginnings of a style.
It’s not about equipment. It’s about knowledge and taste. Good photographers can make good pictures with the simplest stuff. Bad photographers can’t do that with ANY equipment. So before you buy a bunch of gear, learn to make portraits with available light and reflectors, or household lights, or shop lights, whatever you’ve got. Learn how to select the right backgrounds outdoors.
And join an on line forum where you can ask questions, and acquire equipment as you need it and are able to use it.
